Scientist that doesn’t exist, writes about global warming
Wednesday, July 28th, 2010He can’t exist if he doesn’t use An Inconvenient Truth as his bible…can he? Yet, Dr. Roy Spencer, Ph.D., Climatologist, Chief Research Scientist at UAH, former senior scientist for climate studies at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, winner of the NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal, and winner of the American Meteorological Society Special Award—is actually a real person. His AMS award was given for “developing a global, precise record of earth’s temperature from operational polar-orbiting satellites, fundamentally advancing our ability to monitor climate”—what does he possibly know about the climate?
In a recent column for Fusion Magazine, I talked about the media’s shock when they found out that Glenn had a scientific basis for his skepticism on global warming. It wasn’t just Glenn saying “that flat earth can’t get ‘um warmer! Pass ‘em thuh gritz!”
If you’re looking for a quick read on some of the science behind global warming skepticism from a real scientist, Dr. Spencer has posted a great primer on his blog which includes this interesting tidbit:
12) Why Do Most Scientists Believe CO2 is Responsible for the Warming? Because (as they have told me) they can’t think of anything else that might have caused it. Significantly, it’s not that there is evidence nature can’t be the cause, but a lack of sufficiently accurate measurements to determine if nature is the cause. This is a hugely important distinction, and one the public and policymakers have been misled on by the IPCC.
The whole thing is worth a read—as is his most recent book.
Check it out you wacky right-wing deniers.
