You don't know what you've got…

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

…until you show up for work and there's a sign on the door that says “WE ARE CLOSED. THANK YOU.”

Bennigan's restaurant has closed most of it's restaurants, although it appears some franchised stores will remain open. Damn this evil Bush economy.

This essentially eliminates most of the locations serving two of my favorite foods from back in the day.

Broccoli Bites may be the best appetizer on the planet. Basically, a broccoli/cheese mixture, breaded, deep fried, served with a very solid honey mustard. There are a lot of other versions, but Bennigan's had the best I have ever tasted.

And, of course, the devastating Monte Cristo sandwich.

The layers were as follows:
Bread
Turkey
Cheese
Bread
Cheese
Ham
Bread

All dipped in batter, deep fried, sprinkled with powdered sugar, and served with a raspberry dipping sauce. Ridiculous.

My old girlfriend worked there, and my frequent visits to eat that sandwich caused enough weight gain to probably cost me the relationship.

RIP BROCCOLI BITES
RIP MONTE CRISTO

P.S. I verbally abused several co-workers with pro-Bennigan's outbursts today. For this I am sorry. And hungry.

The Obamas Should Read Their Own Website

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Michelle Obama, famous for being non-proud of this mean country, doesn't want to seem ungrateful about her $600 rebate check (which, of course, she's actually too rich to receive).

“You're getting $600 - what can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything, but maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn't pay down every bill every month… Barack's approach is that the short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good, and it may even feel good that first month when you get that check, and then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings.”

$600 earrings? Wow. No wonder it's tough for the Obamas to get by on their paltry six figure salaries.

Instead of spending her time at tiffanys.com, perhaps Michelle should read her own husband's website. The first thing listed under his energy plan summary, is the $50 billion “Obama Second Stimulus” plan featuring “$300 per family in rebate checks.”

I thought Barack's approach wasn't that “short-term quick fix kinda stuff”?

You know, sure, that $300 might feel good at first, but picture poor Michelle walking around Chicago's Miracle Mile of upscale shopping able to afford to wear only one lonely earring.
